Speaker interview: Scott Anderson, Polymer Resources

In this interview, Scott Anderson, President & COO at Polymer Resources, shared some insights into industry challenges, how the sector might develop in the future and more.

Scott's role as Polymer Resources' President & COO is to set and execute the overall strategy for the business working for the long term success of our customers, suppliers, and employees.

What are the biggest challenges facing the market today and how can this be overcome?

Our biggest challenge is to find and retain manufacturing employees.  Our employees who have been with us for years are excellent but finding the next team of manufacturing employees is a challenge.  We need to do a better job in educating our youth on what a manufacturing career looks like and get them excited about these opportunities.  To retain this talent it tis critical that employees thoughts and ideas are valued from day one.  They need to feel part of the team and a contributor to our success.

In your opinion, what do you consider to be the greatest development in your industry in the last decade?

The acceptance and advancements in “green” recycle materials has been a great development.  The technology to sort, clean, and re-use materials getting near prime properties is a huge step forward for the plastics industry.

How do you see the sector developing in the next five to ten years?

There will continue to be a push for unique products.  Every product we produce today is for a specific application at a specific customer.  I see this trend continuing as there is more and more differenciatiton in products.  This requires speed and flexibility to be successful.

You will be speaking at AMI’s plastics industry expos in Cleveland in November, could you give us a preview on what you will be talking about?

I will be participating in one of the industry panels.
