In this exhibitor interview we caught up with Bishop Beall, Vice President – Sales & Business Development at Chroma Color Corporation.

Chroma Color Corporation is a producer of custom color solutions that include concentrates (masterbatch) and precolored compounds. With seven manufacturing sites in North America, Chroma Color provides supply assurance for its plastics processing customers in a wide variety of market segments that include packaging, healthcare (medical device, medical disposables, pharmaceutical), wire and cable, recreation and leisure, sanitation, building and construction, and consumer products. Chroma Color Corporation serve virtually every plastics process (injection molding, blow molding, profile extrusion, sheet extrusion, and rotational molding).  

What do you think sets your company apart from your competitors?

Relationally, Trust is the cornerstone of our relationships with customers.
Technically, our patented G-Series offers the highest loaded pelletized masterbatch that delivers the lowest finished cost to color. Environmentally, our commitment to sustainability has delivered reduced carbon footprint, reduced color usage, PCR carrier resins, and solutions that enable effective coloring of challenging PCR materials.

 

Are there any new technology developments that your company is working on at the moment?

Our G-Series is continuing to expand into new materials (that now include PVC) and we are especially excited about our UltraPET technology for coloring PET.

In response to market demand, we developed IR detectable black formulations for CPG’s black packaging components to be able to be sorted at recycling centers.

 

What are the biggest challenges facing the industry today and how can this be overcome?

The top issues facing our industry are labor shortages, raw material supply chain fractures, and ever increasing costs that come as a result of labor, raw materials, and freight increases.

Chroma Color has been quite aggressive is securing multiple sources for key raw materials whenever they are available.  Redundancy in supply have helped us to meet our customers’ needs in these turbulent times.  In addition, we are maintaining higher than normal inventory positions for the most challenging materials.

Like all manufacturers today, we have raised our wages to be more competitively positioned for securing plant personnel.  


How do you see the sector developing in the next five to ten years?

We believe that innovation through R&D is crucial to long-term success.  We also recognize that there will continue to be consolidation in our space and are aggressively looking to grow inorganically with companies that support our key criteria; geographic, technical solutions, capacity, and market segmentation.

 

What are you most looking forward to at this years’ show? 

Identifying new technologies, prospective acquisitions, new supply partners, and a chance to network with our peers.
