Exhibitor interview: Matsui

This week's interview is with Kevin McCollom, Northeastern Sales Manager of Matsui.

At Matsui they manufacture and produce the finest pneumatic auxiliary conveying equipment in the world. As it relates specifically to the plastic process molding industry.

What do you think sets your company apart from your competitors?

We dry every type of resin material(s) in half-the time than any competitor on the market! in 1985, Matsui not only pioneered the use of desiccant rotor technology for the plastics industry, but essentially set -40° F dew point as the industry benchmark for dryer performance. Our company is second to none, with legendary as our status. No debates.

Are there any new technology developments that your company is working on at the moment?

MJ6 Summer 2023

What are the biggest challenges facing the industry today and how can this be overcome?

The evident and on-going global supply chain issues and logistic nightmares have become the biggest obstacle. I think we can overcome this by going outside the norm, and instilling every possible remedy and resource, awhile also keeping in mind, the pillars & building blocks that has made your 110+ yr. company triumph through similar hard and dire times in the past. I feel that remembering brand awareness and promoting the key benefits and (#1) status of your cornerstones that has set you apart from the rest is vitally important. I also feel that transparency and honesty go a long way with the customer. It’s best to be “up-front” and “realistic” about expected lead-times, then having to “backpedal” later.

How do you see the sector developing in the next five to ten years?

In the next 5-10 yrs. I feel there will be a generational switch regarding personnel industry wide across the board. I foresee many millennials fulfilling new roles in succession of the new retires, but more importantly I foresee a potential huge opportunity on the horizon in the automotive sector as a direct target in the marketplace, and a possible "booster" to help strengthen the American economy. I can only hope that they will continue to focus on bringing this work and factory stateside, but awhile not forgetting that alot of this production will be done down in Mexico. I feel the EV movement is going to be a gamechanger.

What are you most looking forward to at this years’ show?

I would like to push the message that we are humbled as being the world’s #1 leader in pneumatic resin drying. However, we have a wide variety of other auxiliary equipment that we stock in-house. Especially our Low-Speed Granulators (Grinders)!

Matsui will be exhibiting at the Plastic Recycling World Expo.
